The Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 PR team (Chris, myself, Helen, plus Joe, our work experience superstar), spent a very productive but slightly wet day volunteering at the Greenway yesterday - a footpath and cycleway near the Olympic Park which at one end hosts the popular View Tube.

We were volunteering alongside the Commission as part of a London Wildlife Trust scheme to help clear up parts of the Greenway that have fallen into disrepair. We found ourselves building bug hotels, bat and bird boxes and generally clearing up the area. The highlights were catching a glimpse of some relatively rare forms of London wildlife – we saw a slow worm (looked suspiciously like a grass snake), a field mouse and various bugs and critters.  Unfortunately the day was cut slightly short due to the prolonged thunderstorm however we managed to collect in total 6 refuse sacks of rubbish, build 2 bug hotels, 2 loggeries, about 5 bird hotels and 1 bat hotel. Result!

It was great to get out of the office, do something slightly different and be part of a scheme that is helping to renovate parts of London. Yesterday seems like a distant memory now we’re back in the office!
